The handset arrives as a successor-like offering to the Vivo Y500i, which debuted earlier this year, and brings incremental upgrades while retaining a focus on battery capacity and entry-level performance. Key highlights include a large 7,200mAh battery, a 120Hz display, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.

The smartphone also features IP-rated protection for resistance against water, dust, and shocks, making it a practical option in the budget segment. The launch follows the debut of the Vivo Y500 Pro in November 2025, indicating the company’s continued push in the affordable 5G space.

    Vivo Y500s price, availability

The Vivo Y500s price in China starts at CNY 1,800 (approximately Rs. 24,800) for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The 12GB + 256GB and 8GB + 512GB models are priced at CNY 2,200 (around Rs. 30,400).

The smartphone is available in Galaxy Silver, Obsidian Black, and Phoenix Gold colour options. It is currently listed on the brand’s official online store and has reportedly been available for purchase in China since March 2026.

    Vivo Y500s specifications and features

The Vivo Y500s features a 6.75-inch HD LCD display with a resolution of 1570 x 720 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the resolution remains modest, the higher refresh rate should offer smoother scrolling and animations for everyday usage.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. On the software front, it runs Android 16-based OriginOS 6.

In terms of optics, the handset houses a 50-megapixel primary rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. For selfies and video calls, it gets an 8-megapixel front camera. While the camera setup is fairly basic, it should be adequate for casual photography.

Connectivity options on the device include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The phone also comes equipped with essential sensors such as an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and electronic compass. Additionally, it includes an infrared remote control feature, which is still rare in this segment.

For security, the Vivo Y500s offers a side-mounted fingerprint scanner along with face unlock support.

One of the biggest highlights of the Vivo Y500s is its 7,200mAh battery, which is significantly larger than what most smartphones in this price range offer. The device supports 44W fast charging and also includes reverse charging functionality, allowing it to power other devices.

The handset features stereo dual speakers for an improved audio experience. In terms of dimensions, it measures 166.64 x 78.43 x 8.39mm (8.49mm for the gold variant) and weighs 219 grams, which is expected given the large battery capacity.

Overall, the Vivo Y500s appears to be a battery-focused budget 5G smartphone with incremental improvements over its predecessor. It caters to users looking for long-lasting battery life combined with basic performance and essential features.

  • Redmi Tipped to Launch Three Smartphones With 10000mAh Batteries and 100W+ Charging

Redmi Tipped to Launch Three Smartphones With 10000mAh Batteries and 100W+ Charging

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is reportedly developing a new lineup of smartphones focused on battery performance. According to recent leaks, the company could introduce three new models featuring massive 10,000mAh batteries. These devices are also tipped to support fast charging speeds exceeding 100W.

The upcoming smartphones are said to be part of the Redmi Note and Redmi K series. However, the company has not officially confirmed any details regarding these devices so far.

Could Set a New Benchmark in Battery Segment

As per the tipster, these upcoming Redmi smartphones may set a new benchmark in battery capacity. That said, this would not be the first time a smartphone brand has crossed the 10,000mAh mark. Honor previously launched a smartphone in December 2025 under its WIN series featuring a 10,080mAh battery.

In India, large battery smartphones have already made their debut. Realme introduced the Realme P4 Power 5G and Realme Narzo Power 5G with 10,001mAh batteries, both supporting reverse charging. Meanwhile, Redmi’s current highest battery offering is the Redmi Turbo 5 Max, which packs a 9,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging. The upcoming models could surpass this figure.

Redmi K and Note Series Availability

The Redmi K series is typically limited to the Chinese market, whereas the Redmi Note series often sees global launches with some specification changes. In several cases, Redmi K series devices are rebranded and launched in Asian markets under the POCO brand. This suggests that some of the upcoming models could eventually make their way to markets like India.

Role of Silicon Carbon Battery Technology

Fitting a 10,000mAh battery inside a smartphone was previously a challenge, but advancements in Silicon Carbon battery technology have made it more feasible. Traditional lithium-ion batteries use graphite, whereas silicon can store more energy.

By combining silicon and carbon, this technology improves battery stability while enabling higher capacity without significantly increasing the device’s size or thickness.

    Changing Battery Trends in Smartphones

Due to these advancements, smartphones with 6,500mAh or 7,000mAh batteries no longer feel significantly bulkier than older 5,000mAh devices. Battery technology is evolving rapidly, and 5,000mAh is gradually becoming the baseline standard.

Apart from Samsung and Apple, most smartphone brands are now focusing on delivering larger batteries in their devices. This trend indicates that even higher capacity smartphones could be introduced in the future.

    Should You Wait?

Redmi’s upcoming 10,000mAh battery smartphones could bring a significant shift in the battery segment. However, there is no official information yet regarding their launch timeline or availability.

If you are currently looking for a smartphone with strong battery life, devices like the OnePlus Nord 6 or Realme’s recent power-focused models may be worth considering. Alternatively, those willing to wait might find Redmi’s upcoming offerings more compelling.

Xiaomi 17T Series Launch Timeline (Expected)

The Xiaomi 17T series has already been listed on certification platforms such as IMDA and NBTC, which typically indicates that a launch is not far off. Reports suggest that both the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro are currently in development.

While official details remain under wraps, recent leaks hint that the lineup could make its debut soon. The launch is expected to take place either by the end of April or in early May, potentially including availability in India alongside global markets.

    What to Expect

With a focus on performance and AI capabilities, the Xiaomi 17T could emerge as a strong contender in the sub-flagship category. More details regarding its design, camera setup, battery, and pricing are likely to surface in the coming days as the anticipated launch timeline approaches.
